A young pregnant novelist, Rama (Kayije Kagame), attends the trial of Laurence Coly (Guslagie Malanda), a Senegalese woman accused of murdering her 15-month-old child by leaving her on a beach to be swept away. As Rama learns more about Coly's life and the isolation she suffered, Rama becomes increasingly anxious about her own life and pregnancy, imagining writing about the event as a literary retelling of the Greek tragedy Medea.
