A group of Hungarian peasants accept work as migrant-labourers on a northern German farm during WWII, where they are relatively well-off despite witnessing the harsh treatment of POWs. As they witness the realities of war, they choose to return to Hungary, only to be swept up in the tides of conflict. Gábor Koncz stars as András Fábián, one of the Hungarian workers. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 51st Academy Awards.
