Rex, a 70-year-old taxi driver in Broken Hill, is diagnosed with cancer and given three months to live. With this knowledge, he embarks on an epic 3,000-kilometre drive from Broken Hill to Darwin, intending to end his life there due to Australia's euthanasia laws only applying in the Northern Territory. Along the way, Rex is joined by Tilly, a young Aboriginal drifter, and Julie, a nurse and English backpacker, who assist him on his journey. Ultimately, Rex comes to realize that he cannot bring himself to end his life as planned, and instead finds new purpose and connection with those around him.
