A 2012 Dutch war drama film directed by Ate de Jong, "Het Bombardement" (The Bombing) tells the story of Vincent de Graaf (Jan Smit), a young boxer who falls in love with Eva von Heerle (Roos van Erkel), a German refugee. As World War II intensifies, Vincent and Eva's impossible love is threatened by her arranged marriage to Dirk Lagerwaard (Pieter van der Sman). The film chronicles their doomed romance against the backdrop of the Rotterdam bombing on May 14, 1940.
