In "Singing the Blues in Red" (1986), Klaus Drittemann (Gerulf Pannach), a protest singer persona non grata in his homeland, flees East Berlin with his wife and child to emigrate to the West, where he is pursued by representatives of an American record company. Accompanied by young French journalist Emma (Fabienne Babe), he embarks on a journey to Cambridge to reunite with his estranged father, a concert player who left East Berlin when Klaus was young.
