Asura

In medieval Japan, a desolate wasteland ravaged by famine and flood transforms into a barren landscape where a young orphan named Asura struggles to survive. Abandoned by his starving mother, Asura resorts to cannibalism and murder to stay alive, but finds temporary refuge with a Buddhist monk who teaches him the ways of Buddhism. As Asura grows older, he becomes attached to a village girl named Wakasa, who saves him from death and takes care of him, only for him to be forced back onto the streets after she leaves with her lover Shichiro. In the end, Asura finds redemption as a matured Buddhist monk, but not before witnessing the destruction of the village he once called home.
