Bootlegger

Mani (Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs), a master’s student, returns to her reserve in northern Quebec where she grew up, only to have her painful past resurface. Laura (Pascale Bussières), a bootlegger, profits from the sale of alcohol in the community under the protection of the band council and her partner Raymond, still angry with Mani for his daughter's death in a fire. The debate over a referendum on allowing the free sale of alcohol sets off opposing forces that divide the community into two sides vying for independence.
