In 1915, Esteban Podeley (Ángel Magaña) and his friends arrive at a yerba mate plantation in Argentina owned by the ruthless foreman Köhner (Francisco Petrone), who rules with an iron fist. Alongside Dr. Else (Raúl de Lange) and his beautiful daughter Andrea, Podeley faces cruel treatment on the plantation, where Dr. Else struggles with alcoholism and begins to see hallucinations. As Podeley and Andrea begin a relationship, he stages an escape and drives Köhner to the river, leading to a tragic confrontation that ultimately leads to the death of Andrea and Podeley's own demise.
