Capricorn One

In the gripping thriller "Capricorn One," a NASA space mission up to Mars fails due to major technical problems, prompting the powers that be to fake a landing in a studio. The astronauts are forced to pretend they're actually on Mars, while government executives and corporate interests fear the hoax could come to light. A crusading reporter, Elliott Gould, teams up with one of the astronauts, James Brolin, to battle a sinister conspiracy that will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden.
