The Danish Girl

In 1920s Copenhagen, portrait artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) is attending an art show to support her husband, popular landscape artist and closeted trans woman Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne). When Einar agrees to pose for a female model, the experience brings out more of his feminine identity, who is eventually named Lili. As Gerda tries to understand Lili's new identity, they face challenges from family, friends, and medical professionals. With the help of art dealer Hans Axgil (Matthias Schoenaerts), they find support and ultimately seek out Dr. Kurt Warnekros (Sebastian Koch) for groundbreaking gender-affirming surgery, which becomes a turning point in Lili's journey as a transgender pioneer.
