In this revisionist Western, Doc Holliday (Stacy Keach) and a prostitute named Kate Elder (Faye Dunaway) embark on a perilous journey to Tombstone, Arizona, despite Doc's illness with tuberculosis. The trip reunites Doc with his old friend Marshal Wyatt Earp (Harris Yulin), who is clashing with the Clanton gang, setting the stage for their infamous final showdown at the OK Corral.
