The Classic is a 2003 South Korean romantic drama film that tells the parallel love stories of a mother and daughter. The story of the mother, Joo-hee (Son Ye-jin), is told partially in flashbacks to the setting of South Korea under Park Chung Hee's military regime in 1968. As Ji-hye (also played by Son Ye-jin) discovers her mother's story through old letters and a diary, she realizes that their stories are remarkably similar. In the present day, Ji-hye falls for Sang-min (Zo In-sung), whose own love story mirrors his mother's, and the two eventually find each other in a poignant circular ending where Joo-hee's daughter and Joon-ha's son have fallen in love.
