In late-medieval Japan, Kai, a teenage English-Japanese outcast, is adopted by Lord Asano and falls in love with Asano's daughter, Mika. After being framed by the Shōgun's master of ceremonies, Kira, for treason, Asano is forced to perform seppuku. Kai joins Oishi, leader of 47 outcast samurai, on a quest for vengeance against Kira, who has taken over Akō Domain and seeks to destroy their honor.
