The Year My Parents Went on Vacation

A 12-year-old boy is left alone in a Jewish neighborhood in São Paulo, Brazil, where both world cup and dictatorship happen in 1970. His parents, political activists on the run from the military government, abandon him to deliver him to his paternal grandfather, but he dies before their son arrives. Left without support or family, the boy finds care with Shlomo, a solitary elder, and gradually befriends colorful characters in the neighborhood. To the child's great disappointment, his parents never appear as promised at the World Cup nor reunite with him after months apart.
