In Vanda's Room follows the daily life of Vanda Duarte, a heroin addict living in the Fontainhas district of Lisbon, amidst the community and its townscape, including Cape Verdean immigrants. The film takes a year to shoot, capturing the harsh realities of the community's difficult lives. Using fixed shots entirely, Pedro Costa creates a realist style that sheds light on the dispiriting life of Vanda and the community, now facing demolition.
