In 1937 New York City, a 17-year-old high-school student named Richard Samuels is unexpectedly hired by Orson Welles to play Lucius in Caesar, the first production of his new Mercury Theatre repertory company. As rehearsals get underway, Richard finds himself drawn to ambitious production assistant Sonja Jones and becomes jealous when she spends time with the charismatic but troubled director. The film's tone shifts between comedy and drama as Richard navigates his feelings for Sonja and confronts the harsh realities of Welles' career-driven ambitions, set against the backdrop of a historic theatrical premiere that will change everything.
