Umberto D.

Umberto D., a poor elderly man in Rome, desperately tries to keep his rented room as his landlady threatens to evict him if he cannot pay the overdue rent of 15,000 lire. Feeling ill, Umberto fakes illness and gets sent to a hospital, giving his dog Flike to the maid for temporary safekeeping. After being discharged, Umberto contemplates suicide but ultimately decides to find a way to care for his beloved dog.
