Karan Shergill, a thoroughly lazy and irresponsible young man from Delhi, joins the Indian Army after clearing the Combined Defence Services Examination. He trains at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun but deserts due to his inability to adapt, leading to a severe punishment and a transformation that ultimately makes him a focused and disciplined cadet. Karan is commissioned as a Lieutenant and is posted to Kargil, Ladakh, under the command of Colonel Sunil Damle, where he earns praise for his battlefield bravery during the Kargil War.
