In a shocking twist of fate, Buddy Amaral, a charming but self-absorbed Los Angeles advertising executive, switches airline tickets with a stranger to pursue an overnight fling, setting off a chain of events that will forever alter his life. When the plane crashes, killing all aboard, Buddy's guilt and regret soon give way to an alcohol problem, as he seeks atonement in a 12-step program. As part of his recovery, Buddy sets out to reconnect with a Dallas businesswoman whose husband he believes he inadvertently killed.
