In the 1982 Italian-German comedy film "Banana Joe", Bud Spencer stars as a brawny yet friendly island farmer who lives on Amantido in South America, where he trades bananas for goods needed by his community. When gangsters arrive to exploit the population with a banana processing plant, Joe evicts them but is later arrested for trading bananas without a license, forcing him to venture into the city for help. Along the way, he falls prey to a con man and becomes infatuated with an attractive singer, before eventually enlisting in the Army and joining forces with the con artist to take down the real villain - the gangster Torsillo. In the end, Joe finds love, learns to appreciate literacy, and saves his community from exploitation.
