In a near-future, militarized world marked by closed borders, virtual labor and a global digital network that joins minds and experiences, three strangers risk their lives to connect with each other and break the barriers of technology. Memo Cruz, a migrant worker, and Luz Martínez, a node worker, form an unlikely bond while working for Del Rio Water, a company that controls remote-controlled military aerial vehicles that monitor and attack unauthorized Mexico-US immigration attempts. As they navigate their precarious lives, they must confront the morality of their work and the consequences of technology's all-pervasive influence on their humanity. Through their story, director Alex Rivera explores ways in which technology both oppresses and connects migrants.
