Aftermath

In the haunting drama "Aftermath," two brothers return to their rural Polish hometown in 2001 to unravel the dark secrets of their past. Franciszek, who has spent years living abroad, learns that his brother Józef is being ostracized for displaying Jewish tombstones on his farm, which were used as paving stones by German forces during World War II. As they dig deeper, the brothers uncover a terrible truth: their father and neighbors were complicit in the murder of hundreds of Jews during the Jedwabne pogrom, an event that has been largely erased from Polish history. The film is a powerful exploration of guilt, shame, and the struggle to come to terms with a painful past.
