Tsar

In 16th-century Russia, Ivan the Terrible believes he is vested with a holy mission and sees the Last Judgment approaching, leading him to establish absolute power and destroy anyone who gets in his way. A clash between two completely opposite visions of the world unfolds as Hegumen Philip Kolychev, a great scholar and close friend of the Tsar, dares to oppose Ivan's mystical tyranny. The film is an allegory of Stalinist Russia, exploring themes of morality, justice, God and men, in a grand-scale drama with excellent leading roles.
