Raj Kapoor, a poor but educated orphan from Allahabad, travels to Bombay in search of success, only to be quickly swindled out of his possessions and left homeless. He is taken in by a woman named Vidya, played by Nargis, who tries to guide him back onto the right path. As Raj becomes embroiled with a group of unscrupulous businessmen, led by Seth Sonachand Dharmanand, he must use his wit and determination to expose their fraudulent schemes and reclaim his dignity. Along the way, Vidya's unwavering kindness and love serve as a beacon of hope in Raj's journey towards redemption.
