The film follows François (Michel Terrazon), a 10-year-old boy abandoned by his mother and handed over to foster care, as he navigates multiple unstable homes, including the Joingnys and the Thierrys. With each placement, François's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, reflecting his understanding that nothing in life is permanent. Despite the challenges, the kindness of some caregivers, such as Madame Minguet (Marie-Louise Thierry), begins to show through François's troubled nature.
