Between Pain and Amen

A young composer and double bass virtuoso, Vali Popescu (Tase Caraman), returns to Romania after studying in Vienna, where he meets his fiancée Tana played by Kira Hagi. However, their happiness is short-lived as they are arrested by the political police soon after getting engaged and taken to the Pitesti prison. There, Vali undergoes a brainwashing and torture-based experiment under the command of Ciumău (Constantin Cotimanis), a brutal communist prison commander.
