City on the River

In the midst of war-torn Europe, a young artist's dreams are juxtaposed against the brutal realities of World War II, as Latvia is swept up in the ever-changing tides of history. Based on the novel "Piļsāta pi upis" (City by the River), this Latvian tragicomedy follows Ansis, a sign painter with big aspirations, as he navigates love, art, and survival amidst the Nazi, Soviet, and German occupations.
