The Ghost Army

During World War II, a group of American GIs used unconventional tactics to deceive the German army, creating an inflatable road show of fake tanks, trucks, and jeeps on European battlefields. Led by a team of artists, including fashion designer Bill Blass, this unit of 1,100 troops employed sound trucks, loudspeaker recordings, and visual decoys to create elaborate illusions that often fooled enemy soldiers just inches from their positions. Their art and performances became an integral part of the Allied war effort, leaving behind a unique and fascinating visual record of their missions.
