In 1927, a beautiful Russian spy named Sonja Baranikowa (Gerda Maurus) seduces Colonel Jellusič into betraying his country for her employer, Haghi (Rudolf Klein-Rogge), a seemingly respectable bank director who is actually the leader of a powerful criminal organization. A handsome young agent, Number 326 (Willy Fritsch), is tasked with bringing down Haghi, but Sonja convinces him that she has just shot a man for trying to rape her, and they begin a secret romance. As Haghi's plans unfold, including stealing a Japanese-British peace treaty, Number 326 and Sonja must navigate their feelings amidst the danger and deception.
