Practical Magic

Sandra Bullock plays Sally Owens, and Nicole Kidman plays her sister Gillian, in this 1998 romantic fantasy film about two sisters who discover their magical family's dark past and must use their powers to defeat an evil spirit threatening their lives. After their parents' death from a family curse, the sisters are taught practical magic by their eccentric aunts, Frances and Jet. As they navigate their complicated relationships and try to break the Owens curse, Sally meets a man named Gary Hallett, whose impossible qualities seem like a miracle answer to her spell, but may also be the key to saving Gillian from the evil spirit of her abusive boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov.
