In "Salmer fra Kjøkkenet", Swedish efficiency researcher Folke Nilsson (Tomas Norström) is assigned to study the habits of Isak Bjørvik (Joachim Calmeyer), a Norwegian man, from an umpire's chair in his kitchen. As Isak observes Folke through a hole in the ceiling, they overcome initial post-war distrust and become unlikely friends. Their blossoming friendship costs Folke his job during an inspection, leading to him leaving Norway and eventually returning to find Isak has died of a broken heart.
