The Devils

In 1634 France, charismatic Father Urbain Grandier becomes the target of a sexually obsessed nun’s witchcraft accusations, which corrupt church and state officials are all too happy to exploit. The film dramatizes his fall from grace as he is accused by Sister Jeanne des Anges, a neurotic nun with a dark secret, amidst a backdrop of religious hysteria and corruption. Ken Russell's bold adaptation of Aldous Huxley's book and John Whiting's play exposes the dark underbelly of 17th-century France, where sin and chaos reign supreme.
