Jolene

Jolene, Jessica Chastain's film debut, follows 15-year-old orphan Jolene as she navigates a series of tumultuous relationships and experiences, including prostitution, hitchhiking, and infidelity. After being placed in a juvenile mental institution, Jolene meets Cindy, a psychiatric nurse who becomes infatuated with her, leading to another affair. As Jolene travels the country, she meets Coco Leger, an aspiring musician, and later Sal Fontaine, a mobster, before finding work as an erotic dancer and receptionist in various locations. The film chronicles Jolene's struggles with trauma, abuse, and her own resilience as she tries to create a life for herself amidst hardship and adversity.
