La Terra Trema

La Terra Trema is a powerful and poignant film that documents the economic and personal struggles of poor Sicilian fishermen in rural Italy during the 1940s. In a loose adaptation of Giovanni Verga's novel I Malavoglia, Luchino Visconti tells the story of the Valastro family's attempt to improve their circumstances by buying their own boat and operating independently.
