In 1934 Marseille, Roch Siffredi (Alain Delon), a prominent gangster, sets out to avenge his friend Capella's murder ordered by Volpone (Riccardo Cucciolla). After killing Volpone's brother and starting a gang war, Siffredi is humiliated, rescued, and returns to Marseille with a new gang. In a final showdown, he captures Volpone, killing him on the train, before fleeing to the United States with his mistress Lola (Catherine Rouvel) and gang.
