In 18th century France, a scheming widow and her lover make a bet regarding the corruption of a recently married woman, Madame de Tourvel, who Valmont bets will succumb to his charms despite her virtue. As he pursues Tourvel, Valmont falls deeply in love with her, leading him to reevaluate his life of seduction and betrayal.
