How to Eat Fried Worms

Billy Forrester, an 11-year-old boy who has a weak stomach and moves to a new town, accepts a dare from Joe Guire, the school bully, to eat ten worms on a Saturday without throwing up. He teams up with Adam Simms, and together they concoct various methods to cook and eat the worms, while facing challenges from Plug, Benjy, Twitch, and Donny, who try to stop him. Billy's nemesis Joe, who is aided by his two sidekicks, is also vying for power in the school hierarchy. With the help of Erk Tansy, a classmate he finds awkward but friendly, Billy ultimately succeeds in eating all ten worms before the deadline, earning him bragging rights and a newfound standing among his peers.
