A photographer travels across Armenia with his wife and a local driver to capture churches for a calendar project, but as their journey nears completion, he becomes increasingly aware of the distance growing between them. Meanwhile, he uses an escort agency in Toronto to invite women from culturally related countries for dinner, attempting to recreate the intimacy he once shared with his estranged wife. The film's narrative is presented through a unique blend of fragmented sequences, including Armenia, a dining room, and answering machine messages. By piecing together these disparate elements, Atom Egoyan crafts a poignant and visually striking exploration of identity, family relationships, and the passage of time.
