Financial TV host Lee Gates (George Clooney) and his producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts) are put in a desperate situation when an irate investor takes them and their crew as hostage. The man, Kyle Budwell (Jack O'Connell), claims that he lost everything after investing $60,000 in IBIS Clear Capital's stock, which mysteriously cratered due to a glitch in the trading algorithm. As Lee tries to calm Kyle down and find out what really happened, they must navigate a complex web of deceit and corruption with the help of Patty, police, and hackers.
