In this 1969 Estonian film adaptation of Oskar Luts' novel, a group of schoolchildren in an Estonian village experience the blossoming of true friendships and first loves as they navigate the trials and tribulations of one academic year. Set against the backdrop of the end of the 19th century, the story follows the lives of Arno, Teele, Toots, and Kiir as they discover themselves and their places in the world.
