Night Mail

The 1936 British documentary film "Night Mail" chronicles the overnight journey of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway's postal train as it transports mail from London's Euston station to Scotland. The film showcases a naturalistic, poetic depiction of industrial labour, highlighting the role of postal workers in the delivery of the mail, with commentary by W.H. Auden. Actual GPO and railway staff were used to meticulously detail the overnight sorting of letters, while sound director Alberto Cavalcanti pioneered the film's complex audio layering.
