Barefoot Gen 2

In 1948, three years after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Gen Nakaoka and his younger brother Ryuta join a gang of orphan scavengers led by Masa to survive in a post-war Japan struggling to rebuild. As Gen befriends Katsuko, one of the orphans who sustained serious burns in the bombing, they try to save their mother Kimie from radiation sickness, a consequence of her survival of the Hiroshima atomic bombing. The film follows Gen's attempts to help his family and friends amidst the chaos and poverty of post-war Japan, ultimately leading to Kimie's tragic death.
