"My Family" is a drama film tracing over three generations of an immigrant family's trials and tribulations as they settle in East Los Angeles. The story is narrated by Paco, one of the family's oldest sons, played by Edward James Olmos, who recounts his father José's journey from Mexico to Los Angeles, where he meets his wife María, a U.S. citizen. Twenty years later, their eldest daughter Irene gets married, and as the family grows up in the 1950s, tensions rise when Chucho is killed by the police after a fight with Butch Mejia. The film follows Jimmy's journey to becoming a responsible parent, his marriage to Isabel, a Salvadorian refugee, and his struggles to connect with his son Carlitos.
