Evil Does Not Exist

The film follows widower Takumi Yasumura (Hitoshi Omika), who lives with his eight-year-old daughter Hana in the peaceful Japanese mountain village of Mizubiki. The village is disrupted by a real estate project, and the consequences its development will have for their environment are explored through multiple perspectives. As Takumi struggles to cope with the threat to his simple life, he finds himself caught up in the plans of two talent agency representatives, Takahashi Keisuke (Ryuji Kosaka) and Mayuzumi Yuuko (Ayaka Shibutani), who offer him a lucrative job as a caretaker for a glamping site. The film's cinematography and score create an immersive environment, but its slow-burn pace and lack of impact have been criticized by some reviewers.
