The Cat and the Canary

In this 1927 silent comedy horror film, relatives gather at a decaying mansion overlooking the Hudson River for the reading of their wealthy uncle's will, where they discover that the sole heir, Annabelle West, is threatened by a clause that could disinherit her if she goes mad. As midnight approaches, the family must navigate the treacherous halls and hidden passages of the haunted mansion, all while a mysterious lunatic known as the Cat escapes from an asylum and wreaks havoc on them.
