In a patriarchal world where women are relegated to domestic roles, two sisters struggle to find their place in Jerusalem's Orthodox Mea Shearim quarter. Rivka, happily married to childless husband Meir, is deemed "barren" by the yeshiva's rabbi and forced into divorce, leaving her emotionally shattered. Meanwhile, Malka's arranged marriage to Yosef takes a dark turn, while she secretly pines for Yaakov, a secular rock singer. As the year 2000 approaches, Rivka finds solace in Meir, but their illicit encounter raises questions about the sisters' options within this restrictive society.
