During World War I's tumultuous opening days, a Jewish innkeeper named Tag takes in a motley crew of refugees seeking refuge from the Cossacks and advancing Russian Army in his rural Galician inn. A diverse group arrives, including a group of Hasidic Jews, an Austrian baroness, and a Hungarian hussar, all fleeing war-torn Europe, as they wait for their own safety to pass. Based on Julian Stryjkowski's 1966 novel, this drama masterfully captures the tension and uncertainty that defined the eve of war in Poland.
