The film follows 17-year-old Noriko Shimabara as she runs away from her family in Toyokawa to meet Kumiko, the leader of an Internet BBS, Haikyo.com. She becomes involved with Kumiko's family circle, which grows darker after a mass suicide of high school girls. Themes include identity, social alienation, and communication as Noriko navigates her new online community and struggles with her family's expectations.
