A 12-year-old girl named Bea moves into her grandmother's apartment in New York while her father awaits heart surgery. She begins to see everyone's imaginary friends, who have been left behind as their children have grown up. With the help of a mysterious man named Cal and his team of imaginary friend handlers, Bea sets out on a magical adventure to reconnect these forgotten imaginary friends with their kids. Along the way, she discovers her own connection to one such friend, who turns out to be her own childhood imaginary companion, reawakened by her need for comfort during a difficult time.
