USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage

The harrowing true story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis is told in this 2016 film. The ship, commanded by Captain Charles B. McVay III (Nicolas Cage), delivers parts of the atomic bomb that would later be used to bomb Hiroshima at the end of World War II. After being torpedoed and sunk by an Imperial Japanese Navy submarine on July 30, 1945, the crew is left stranded in shark-infested waters for five days without food or water. Only a few hundred of the 1,197 people on board survive the disaster, which includes dehydration, exposure, salt water poisoning, and shark attacks, as well as mental breakdowns due to hallucinations.
